A Home Ground Built for Players, Not Tourists
Tucked into a restored warehouse on Gertrude Street, PhoenixArena is Fitzroy's answer to the late-night gaming ritual. We ran server rooms and LAN cafés for a decade before opening our doors here in 2019 — so every cable, chair and frame rate has been dialled in by people who actually play.
The floor is split into four camps: the PC battlestation ridge, the VR expedition bays, the console lounge, and a fuel bar pouring cold brew and loaded toasties. Walk-ins welcome, but the good rigs fill fast on tournament nights.

From ranked grinds to birthday raids, here's what you can book on the floor. All prices in AUD.
RTX 4080 rigs paired with 240Hz displays, mechanical keyboards and Secretlab chairs. Peripherals are sanitised between sessions and you can bring your own gear if you'd rather. Off-peak weekday rates start at $12/hour; prime-time Friday and Saturday evenings are $18/hour.
Twelve padded, tracked bays running Quest 3 and PCVR headsets with a rotating library of co-op and expedition titles. First-timers get a free five-minute calibration and safety brief. Sessions are $25 for 30 minutes or $40 for the hour, and up to four bays can be linked for a squad.
Beanbags, couches and 65-inch OLEDs loaded with PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch. It's the calmest corner of the arena — ideal for co-op nights, fighting-game sets or a casual FIFA rematch. $9/hour per player, or $30 for a four-seat couch package.
Every Friday from 7pm we run a bracket — Valorant, Rocket League and Tekken on rotation. Entry is $15 and includes a drink from the fuel bar. Prize pools grow with the field, and casual spectators are always free to watch from the mezzanine.
A curtained-off bay with eight linked stations, its own sound and a mini bar tab. Popular for birthdays, work socials and clan meet-ups. Packages from $180 for two hours including setup, a host, and a platter from the fuel bar. Bookings essential on weekends.
Single-origin cold brew, loaded toasties, ramen cups and a wall of energy drinks. Everything is under $14 and can be ordered to your station from the floor app so you never have to alt-tab out of a match.

Booked the party room for my brother's 18th and the host sorted everything — eight linked rigs, a Valorant bracket and a toastie platter. Best birthday we've thrown in years.
First VR session and the calibration brief made all the difference. Zero motion sickness, and linking two bays with my flatmate for the co-op title was genuinely the most fun I've had all year.
I grind ranked here two nights a week. Sub-8ms ping, 240Hz that actually holds, and staff who know the difference between a good mouse and a marketing gimmick. Off-peak rates are unbeatable.

We ran a work social for twelve and everyone from the console-only crowd to the VR sceptics had a blast. Two-minute walk from the tram made it an easy sell for the team.
